Ruth and I have worked as journalists in the hairdressing world for a combined 33 years. Luckily, we love the industry. Why? Well, there’s loads of reasons, but predominantly, it’s the passion hairdressers have for what they do. I worked on magazines in a variety of industries before I joined HJ in 2006, and I had never witnessed the enthusiasm and energy shown by hairdressers towards their job.
Joining HJ opened my eyes to just what a creative, exciting and diverse career hairdressing can be, and, although I can’t cut hair to save my life, I fell in love with it.
Hairdressers are creative, they are skilled and they love other people. One element of hairdressing that impressed me was platform work and those hairdressers who are able to stand on a stage, cutting or colouring hair and chatting confidently about what they are doing. Who knew hairdressers could be such consummate performers!
Also impressive are those stylists who dedicate themselves to working in a salon, making clients feel great every day, acting as confidants as well as transforming the way people look and feel.
In short, hairdressers are great!
This is why both Ruth and I are so excited to be launching RedMane Media, a PR agency firmly based in hairdressing.
We can’t wait to work with stylists, salon owners and brands to help develop their profiles, build on their successes and help raise standards across the industry.
