We’ve spoken before about the importance of having a PR plan in place, but back then we had no idea that a Royal baby and a Royal wedding would create such perfect PR opportunities for hair salons. Obviously, not all your clients will be quaking with excitement at the imminent nuptials of Meghan and Harry or even at the prospect of another Royal baby, but the fact is, most of them will be talking about both these events, so they are great hooks on which to hang some PR activity.
BABY BOOM
Use the birth of the next Baby Windsor as a great chance to share some tips for new mothers on how to look after their hair. Facebook is a great platform to share advice to clients and prospective clients on what they can expect their hair to do following the birth of their baby and the product that can help keep their hair looking healthy and lustrous, despite the inevitable post-birth thinning. You could also suggest some practical but flattering hair looks that are ideal for time-strapped new mums. Show your clients you care and that you are the expert when it comes to all things hair.
If you have some new mums as regular clients, you could even hold a special client evening for them and invite them to bring a friend who has also just become a mum. New mums tend to mix with a lot of other new parents, and they are often keen to communicate and socialise with each other – so give them an excuse. Make it a child-friendly event, so they can bring their new arrivals if they want to and give them some tips on how to style their hair, plus some free goodie bags containing samples of products. Look on social media for local groups that bring parents together and see if you can promote your event through them.
WEDDING FEVER
In the run-up to the Royal wedding, offer your expert tips on social media on how to make sure a bride’s hair is her crowning glory on the big day. You could end the post with an invite to any brides-to-be to book a free wedding hair consultation.
If wedding hair is a big focus for your salon, or you want to make it one, then there is no better time than when Royal wedding fever is gripping the nation, to have a client event centred around weddings. Why not team up with a local bridal shop and jeweller to offer clients the whole wedding package?
And keep an eye out for other hooks that you can hang a PR campaign or event on – including national days like Father’s Day, or Halloween. Think how you can link in with these occasions to create an interest in your salon.
