An Engaging Blog can be a valuable extension of your brand

A big part of what we do at RedMane Media is writing blogs for clients, creating engaging content that helps brands connect with their target audience. A blog is great way for a salon or salon group to communicate with its clients.

BE PREPARED

Before posting your first blog think about who you are talking to. Is there a particular section of your client base you want to appeal to, or a specific type of client you want to attract to your business? Once you have this end reader in mind you can start to plan some content for your posts. It’s a good idea to draw up a list of ideas for posts that you feel will engage with your target audience and, ideally, have several written and ready to go, so you aren’t rushing to put them together at the last minute when other areas of your job take over.

THE VOICE

Try and develop a consistent voice for your blog posts – a tone that will appeal to the audience you want to reach. Do you want to sound like friend giving advice, an expert imparting knowledge, or maybe a mixture of both -  friendly but authoritative?

Once you’ve established this voice, stick with it, even if more than one person is compiling the blogs on behalf of your brand. If you’re really serious about it, put together a guide that includes the tone of voice to use, key words to include, and the overriding message you want every blog to send about your business.

CONTENT IS KING

While sharing news of what your team have been up to and your successes can make interesting reading, you also need to ensure your blog includes posts that offer your readers something for them. A blog on getting hair ready for the winter weather could work well now, for example, with some tips on products to use, ways to avoid frizz in humid environments, how to stop hair drying out when the central heating goes on. This post would not only offer the client some valuable advice, it also gives you the chance to talk about the products and services you offer without doing the hard sell.

Where possible, use images and short videos to add interest to our blog. A simple how-to video on blow-drying techniques, for example, will genuinely offer clients something useful.

POST REGULARLY

Once you start a blog, it’s important to keep posting regularly, whether that’s twice a week or twice a month. This is why it’s a good idea to write several in one go and schedule them, so that posting doesn’t get forgotten and so sporadic readers lose interest.

ENJOY!

Ultimately you need to enjoy writing you blog. If you get pleasure from writing it, this will shine through and help you create engaging content that your clients and prospective clients will love.
