Forming the Perfect PR Partnership

Just like any partnership, the relationship you have with your PR company needs to work. You need to “get” each other and be the right fit.

At RedMane Media we are never afraid to tell a potential client that we don’t feel we are the right agency for them. We know where our expertise lies and the ways we can help a person or brand grow.

Before you even approach a PR agency, ask yourself ‘what do I want from PR?’

What is it you want PR to achieve on behalf of your brand – whether that brand is a range of products, a salon or you as an individual.

For example, are you a salon that wants to get more clients through the door, or a stylist that wants to raise your profile within the hairdressing industry, or are you a professional product brand that needs to build its presence in to marketplace?

Once you know, broadly, what you want, draw up a list of aims.

For example: I want PR to bring in an extra 10 clients per week, or I want to be featured in all the leading hairdressing trade magazines, building my reputation as a hair expert.

You now you have a list of priorities to put to any PR company you approach.

Obviously, PR isn’t an exact science. We can’t guarantee you those 10 extra clients through the door, but a PR company will be able to assure you that they will work hard on your behalf building relationships with local press and influencers, in order to grow your reputation locally. If they can’t, then perhaps you need a different agency.

Neither can an agency guarantee 100% they will get you quoted every month in leading trade magazines or on hairdressing websites, but they will be able to confirm that they have great relationships with the trade press and that they will ensure they are actively working every month to try and secure coverage with them.

RedMane Media prides itself on being an industry specialist PR and communications agency. Our history in hairdressing trade magazines, websites and events means we have great connections with key trade journalists and hairdressers. We’ve also both had experience in local newspapers, so we can certainly handle local PR. But we would never claim to be a big player in the world of consumer PR. If you’re looking to get coverage in the major women’s magazines or The Daily Mail, there are other agencies that will do a much better job of that for you.

But if building your industry profile or launching a brand into the salon industry is your aim, we are a perfect fit.
